North Pole Flyer Team
Help make Christmas magic happen aboard Central Texas’s favorite holiday tradition — the North Pole Flyer! This festive experience runs weekends from November 28 – December 13, and we’re looking for cheerful volunteers to help create unforgettable memories for our guests. Apply by Thursday, November 6th!
Volunteer Roles
- Car Attendants:
- Welcome guests aboard with a smile and holiday cheer
- Help with onboard activities
- Help passengers safely on and off the train
- Keep each car tidy and full of festive spirit between rides
- Bertram Depot Assistants:
- Greet passengers at check-in and assist with ticketing, directions, and cocoa
- Keep the platform merry and organized
Volunteer Schedule
- Car Attendant Shifts: 7:00 AM – 2:30 PM and 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM
- Bertram Depot Assistant Shifts: 7:00 AM–8:30 AM, 10:30 AM–12:00 PM, 2:00 PM–3:30 PM, and 5:30–7:00 PM
- Both shifts begin at the Bertram Depot located at 170 S. Gabriel St., Bertram, TX 78605.
Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years old
- Must be friendly, dependable, and ready to bring the holiday spirit!
- Pass a background check
- Complete a short online training (approx. 45 minutes) before orientation
Perks
- Every week, North Pole Flyer volunteers who volunteer at least 4 hours are entered into drawings for gift cards, tickets, or merchandise!
- Every 20 hours of volunteer service earns you a voucher for a free train ride!
Year-Round Team
Help keep the rich history of railroading alive in Central Texas by volunteering at the most unique spot in town! From assisting guests on train rides to helping the train keep rolling, there are many ways to be a part of the magic!
Volunteer Roles
- Onboard Services:
- Welcome guests aboard with a smile
- Assist passengers with their ride and answer questions about the train’s history
- Help passengers safely on and off the train
- Keep each car tidy and safe
- Train Operations Crew:
- Get trained and certified to be a part of the team that keeps the train rolling
- Gain experience to become a brakemen, engineer, etc.
- Help keep the train in tip top shape by assisting with maintenance and restoration
Volunteer Schedule
- Volunteer as often as you like – we’re flexible!
- Train rides run almost every weekend of the year and typically last between 6–8 hours, depending on route. Check the train ride schedule to see upcoming departures.
- We recommend volunteers serve at least one shift every other month to keep their skills sharp but no commitment is required.
Requirements
- Must be at least 14 years old (Junior Volunteers must have an adult present while volunteering)
- Pass a background check
- Attend an orientation where you’ll review the Volunteer Manual, tour the train, and experience ASTA in motion!
- Shadow a seasoned volunteer (4 runs for Onboard Services; additional training required for Crew).
