Welcome to our 2023 hill country Flyer page!

The Hill Country Flyer is our most popular route, serving as our signature ride since making it’s first run on July 25, 1992. The Hill Country Flyer departs from our Cedar Park Depot most Saturdays January- May and September- November.

This route is our longest at 66 miles round-trip, normally departing at 9:00am and returning at 3:30pm. There is a 2-hour layover in Burnet for lunch and shopping on your own.

During the summertime, the Hill Country Flyer takes a break for our shorter route– the Bertram Flyer– to take the helm! It also pauses mid-November- December for our North Pole Flyer Christmas rides.

The above information is subject to change. Please check the details of your specific ride here to learn more.

hill Country Flyer Lunch Details

Trailblazer Grille is a local restaurant right on the square! Known for their burgers and homemade meatloaf, most of the passengers on the train go there during lunch. Because of their popularity, making a plan to eat there is a must! Call ahead to make your reservation at 512-756-7636. Just let them know you are on the train, and they will know what to do! You can see the menu here. If you walk in with no reservation you will likely have a significant wait–if you can get a table at all–and may not have time to shop or watch the Burnet Gunfighters. Thanks in advance for being patient with them!

Just a few doors down from Trailblazer is a small, locally owned coffee shop called Unshakable Grounds. If some coffee sounds good, or you want a lighter lunch like a sandwich or smoothie, this is a great option! Inside tables will be limited, but takeout is also an option. Reservations are not required for Unshakable Grounds.
Don’t mind a bit of a walk? Check out: Hacienda El Charro at 306 S. Water St., Warehouse BBQ and Meetery at 305 N. Water Street, El Rancho at 608 E. Polk St., or Mojo Coffee at 609 E. Polk St! Getting to these places is a *little* bit of an adventure, so prepare for a lack of sidewalks, or major street crossings. However, you will find many of our Volunteers and Crew here!
Don’t want to fight the crowds? We love the grassy areas around the Burnet Courthouse in the heart of the town square. Pack your picnic and have a seat! Your own food and non-alcoholic drinks are welcome on board the train.
